Serco

Case Study

Serco provide all manner of service to Cornwall Council including waste and recycling collection, street cleansing and landscaping. At Serco, there is a strong company commitment to developing a learning culture and this has had a positive benefit on the business. Along with other benefits, training has improved employee morale and confidence and decreased absenteeism.

Craig Mouatt, Transport Manager at Serco said: “Serco has a total commitment to training and development of staff throughout the organisation. Our training programme has been developed to equip all of our teams to operate to the highest possible standards in an environment where all our activities our extremely visible to the wider community.”

Working with Cornwall College Business, Serco staff have been able to complete a wide ranging and comprehensive programme of training often against a background of literacy and numeracy (and operational) challenges to achieve a motivated and effective workforce. A primary focus has been the NVQ training for front line leaders. IOSH training and CIEH Risk Assessment training (amongst other things) has been undertaken by the Management team.

Serco’s investment in staff development will continue into the future, with particular focus in the coming year to extending Health and Safety training/qualifications for all tiers of staff.
