Penventon Hotel

Case Study

The Penventon Hotel employs a number of apprentices as part of their Chef’s team. Apprentices receive daily one-on-one guidance and training from a team of experienced chefs.

Paul Ricketts, General Manager of Penventon Hotel said: “We view apprenticeships as an investment in our future. The apprenticeship programme has brought so many benefits to our business. We have less turnover in staff. Our efficiency and productivity have improved because trained staff make fewer mistakes. It is a cost effective way to build our team. We prefer training them from scratch so they can be shaped into the type of employee Penventon require, i.e. skilled experienced employees who we hope stay with us. Several of our apprentices have been extremely keen and talented and have become invaluable team members.

“The apprenticeship scheme is exciting for apprentices – working in a hotel is non-stop, demanding work and it’s difficult to train staff in this environment.  Having off-the-job training as well really helps this. We offer the apprentices the best work opportunities and training we can.”
