Cornwall Glass & Glazing

Case Study

St. Austell based Cornwall Glass and Glazing (CGG), established in 1982, is a family owned glazing supplier with eleven branches across the South West. The introduction of three major training programmes has seen CGG improve the skills base of its employees, become more productive and lower company costs.

In order to save cost, reduce waste and shrink its carbon footprint CGG enlisted the help of Cornwall College Business to provide Environmental Management training courses and a CRESTA Environmental Awareness course for staff. The resulting efficiencies saved them £100,000 in costs.

CGG also put in place a scheme to allow production operatives to undertake an NVQ2 in either Fenestration Installation or Glass Processing and sent all managers on a management training programme. The training resulted in improved skills, dramatic reduction in staff turnover, increased morale and productivity and a decrease in absenteeism.

The company has seen a marked improvement in all aspects of the business through implementing the above training schemes and is set to continue its commitment to training and staff development. The award for 'Training that has made the most Significant Impact' was presented to Cornwall Glass and Glazing at the 2009 CCB Excellence in Business Training Awards.
