Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who wishes to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of Geographical Information Systems. The course is aimed primarily at novice GIS users but would suit anyone who uses geographical data and who is reasonably IT-literate.

You may work in the public or private sector or simply wish to increase your skills base and employability in this exciting new and developing area. This course will equip you with the basic skills and an understanding of how to successfully use GIS in the context of your work environment as an aid to decision making.

  • Creation of datasets – data gathering and input into GIS
  • Querying and spatial analysis techniques - what does my information tell me and how can I use it?

Geographical Information Systems is delivered through a blended approach of theory and practical sessions using ArcGIS software. Delegates will have access to online support materials and copies of the software are available for home use for a nominal charge. Successful completion of this course will require the delegate to undertake an assignment and short presentation.
