Summary
Participating in this course will ensure delegates gain the knowledge and understanding that underpins competent performance as an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner. Those who achieve the qualificaiton also receive the Training Skills and Practice Certificate (CIEH), delivered as part of the progamme which allows delegates to deliver Health and Safety training. Holders of the Diploma will meet the academic requirements for admission to health and safety professional bodies, including IOSH.

Who is this course for?
This course is for experienced Health and Safety managers with a minimum of NEBOSH National General Certificate or similar experience.
The NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety provides the core health and safety knowledge, transferable to all sectors which, combined with understanding and appropriate application, underpins the competent performance of an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner.
The 2012 cohort of delegates have achieved a 75% pass rate, compared to the national average of 57%.
Entry requirements
There no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however candidates should consider that this is professional level qualification, approximately equivalent to Level 6. Achievement of the NGC or direct equivalent prior to undertaking the Diploma course is highly recommended.

Course overview
The qualification is divided into four units, each of which is assessed separately:
- Unit A - Managing health and safety
- Unit B - Hazardous agents in the workplace
- Unit C - Workplace and work equipment safety
- Unit D - Application of health and safety theory and practice
Students may choose to take individual units in any order over a five year period and will be awarded a unit certificate for each unit passed. Skills developed while studying for this course include
- Communication skills for managers
- Leadership and management
- Managing Health and Safety, including a review of human factors, organisational factors and managing risk
- Managing, monitoring and maintaining hazardous agents in the workplace
- Safety of the workplace and work equipment
- Understanding the principles of fire and explosion
- Electrical and mechanical demolition health and safety
- Pollution and waste management
This course is delieved using a unique time saving blended learning approach. It will run over one year and will be a mixture of taught sessions (approximately 1 week a month for 1 year) and self study. You will be assessed through a series of work based assignments with examinations at the end of each module.
