Roofing Apprenticeship Level 2
Summary
The Roofing Occupations Apprenticeship is for people who want to become a qualified Roofer, while laying the foundation for a successful career in the construction industry.
If you are interested in roofing, have a good head for heights and are able to follow technical drawings and building plans; this is a great course to kick start your career.
Over 90% of our construction apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.
An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!
Upon successful completion, you are qualified as a junior roofer and can start working towards the Level 3 Diploma by enrolling in the advanced apprenticeship.
Once you are a qualified roofer, you may progress to the level of a supervisor or foreman.
In the future, you may be interested in studying further and complete a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations or Site Supervisory.

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in roofing.
You must enjoy working in the construction industry, have a good head for heights and be able to follow technical drawings and building plans.
Entry requirements
To enrol in this apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C and be employed in a suitable roofing position.

Course overview
You will attend lectures at the St Austell campus 1 day per week for 2 years, while the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace.
During this apprenticeship, you will learn to install, strip and reuse a variety of roof coverings including:
- Single-lap roof coverings to a variable gauge
- Plain tile roof coverings
- Regular sized natural roof slates to standard details
- Roofing backgrounds and components
- Pre-formed weathering flashings to roofs
You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Roofing Occupations
- NVQ in Roofing Occupations
What's next?
With a Level 2 Diploma, you are qualified as a junior roofer and can start working towards the Level 3 Diploma by enrolling in the advanced apprenticeship.
Once you are a qualified roofer, you may progress to the level of a supervisor or foreman.
In the future, you may be interested in studying further and complete a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations or Site Supervisory.
