This apprenticeship is for people who want to become qualified in site carpentry or bench joinery, while laying the foundation for a successful career in the construction or wood related industries. Site carpenters and bench joiners work with wood to create a variety of items e.g. timber framing for houses, doors, windows and kitchen units.
An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!
Over 90% of our construction apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.
Upon successful completion, you can start working towards the nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma by enrolling in the advanced apprenticeship.
Once you are a qualified carpenter or joiner, you may progress to the level of a supervisor or manager. If you work for a large company, you could work as a planner and estimator, designer, production controller or specialist craftsperson. Alternatively, you could start your own business or teach wood occupations.
In the future, you may be interested in continuing your apprenticeship studies through Cornwall College Business and enrol in the team leading, people management, level 4 site supervision, wood machining or furniture making apprenticeship. The full time BTEC Diploma in Construction and Built Environment or the FdSc Sustainable Construction course may interest to you, both are offered at Cornwall College.
