Who is this course for?

This course is for learners wanting to progress in the building services sector to work with environmental technologies; and for qualified and competent practitioners looking to upskill in the renewables sector via the installation of small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

These systems generate and store electricity from the sun and are designed to help reduce CO² emissions, targeted under the Climate Change Act 2008.

Entry requirements

To enrol on this course, you will need to have 1 of the following:

  • EAL Level 3 award Understanding the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems + C&G 2356-31 Level 3 NVQ Installation of Electro technical Systems + C&G 2391 Level 3 Inspection & Testing + C&G 2382-10 (full) 17th Edition (BS7671:2008) or C&G 2382-20 (short, 2011 amendment)
  • 17th Edition (BS 7671:2008) + membership of approved bodies, NICEIC; NAPIT or ELECSA
  • 17th Edition (BS 7671:2008) + practising domestic installer qualifying, testing and commission of own work

All delegates MUST be physically fit and able to carry out any practical work during the course.

Course overview

This course is structured to facilitate practicing electricians, and covers both theoretical and practical applications which are designed to replicate real circumstances.

Learners begin by covering the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technologies, before focusing on the installation of small scale solar photovoltaic systems.

The course is delivered within internal and external workshops, and includes an element of independent learning which enables learners to expand on the taught elements of the course.
