The Association of Chartered Accountants (ACCA) is an international recognised body of professional accountants.  The ACCA qualification is an established route to professional status and will help your career progress across business sectors.

Entry requirements

There are various entry points on to ACCA depending upon previous academic qualifications. For information regarding entry routes and exemptions please visit the ACCA website www.accaglobal.com/join/acca/entry. ACCA assesses all prospective students on a case-by-case basis.  Students who have recently qualified as an Accounting Technician will be able to commence at Stage 1 Fundamental.Please enquire if you are at all unsure as to your suitability and the course manager will be happy to discuss the course and its content with you.

Course overview

Students study three papers: F4 Corporate & Business Law, F5 Performance Management and F6 Taxation.

Paper F4 develops knowledge and skills in understanding the general legislative framework, and specific legal areas relating to business.  Students will consequently recognise the need to seek further specialist legal advice where necessary.

Paper F5 develops knowledge and skills in the application of management accounting techniques particularly the analysis of quantitative and qualitative information for planning, decision making, performance evaluation and control.

Paper F6 develops the knowledge and skills relating to the tax system applicable to individuals, single companies and groups of companies.

Each of these papers is assessed by a three hour examination.

The programme of study embraces formal lectures, independent study, practise exercises, past exam papers, informal group discussion, informal chats with tutors and structured revision sessions.

What's next?

Successful students progress onto the ACCA Stage 2 Fundamentals, and continue to work through Stages 3 and 4 Professional levels culminating in full membership (subject to ACCA experience requirements).  Past students work across all the major sectors: Private firms of accounting practitioners, the NHS, Local Government, and SMEs.
