A new business training facility in Launceston has been officially opened this week by Launceston’s Mayor, Rob Tremain. The Business Space, based in Dunheved House and run by Cornwall College Business is a newly refurbished meeting and conference facility, where courses, apprenticeships and qualifications as well as meeting and conference rooms are now available.
Businesses in Plymouth helped Cornwall College Business celebrate its first birthday in the city at a specfically designed Leadership and Management Conference.
The SOAR to Success event, hosted by Cornwall College Business at The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, launched a new initiative called "SOAR" (Skills, Opportunities, Achieve, Results) which is a result of £7.8 million of funding provided by European Social Fund (ESF) Convergence to train and develop frontline staff in Cornish businesses. Stephen Martin delivered an entertaining and practical keynote speech at the event, describing his unique experience as part of the Channel 4 documentary in 2009, which saw him working covertly alongside his frontline staff, discovering what they really thought of his management decisions. The event also saw local businesses provide their perspectives on the importance of training and developing people, including Falfish and Cornwall Care.
CCB hosted a highly successful event where delegates had the opportunity to taste two hour-long workshops on either, marketing or event management and project management or web design & SEO. They also heard from local organisations, including Isis Construction, Matthew Stevens, Tonick Business Publishing and Ruby Tiger Design, who have used training to grow their businesses.

They saw fashion shows, hair demos, presentations, seminars on hairstyling and business, and much much more. Exhibitors included ghd, TIGI, TONI & GUY and The Sassoon Academy. None of them had been to the event before and found it inspiring and exciting. They came home bursting with new ideas!
