This year St Austell Brewery, The Rashleigh Arms - Charlestown, The White Hart - St Austell, Baker Tom, Chough Bakery and Cornwall College joined us on our stand to run cooking demonstrations with their apprentices.

Steve Hancock, Head of Work-based Learning and Raoul Humphreys, Deputy CEO of Cornwall College are usually office-based, so they enjoyed the opportunity to experience what life is really like as a waste management apprentice at Absolute Recycling in Plymouth, as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

A new business training facility in Launceston has been officially opened this week by Launceston’s Mayor, Rob Tremain. The Business Space, based in Dunheved House and run by Cornwall College Business is a newly refurbished meeting and conference facility, where courses, apprenticeships and qualifications as well as meeting and conference rooms are now available.

Businesses in Plymouth helped Cornwall College Business celebrate its first birthday in the city at a specfically designed Leadership and Management Conference.

The SOAR to Success event, hosted by Cornwall College Business at The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, launched a new initiative called "SOAR" (Skills, Opportunities, Achieve, Results) which is a result of £7.8 million of funding provided by European Social Fund (ESF) Convergence to train and develop frontline staff in Cornish businesses. Stephen Martin delivered an entertaining and practical keynote speech at the event, describing his unique experience as part of the Channel 4 documentary in 2009, which saw him working covertly alongside his frontline staff, discovering what they really thought of his management decisions. The event also saw local businesses provide their perspectives on the importance of training and developing people, including Falfish and Cornwall Care.

CCB hosted a highly successful event where delegates had the opportunity to taste two hour-long workshops on either, marketing or event management and project management or web design & SEO. They also heard from local organisations, including Isis Construction, Matthew Stevens, Tonick Business Publishing and Ruby Tiger Design, who have used training to grow their businesses.

Over 70 businesses across Cornwall & Devon attend the Getting it right - Health & Safety Conference hosted by Cornwall College Business at The Business Space in Truro and Plymouth with guest speakers from HSE and Cornwall/Devon & Somerset Fire Resue Services.

Plymouth based businesses, heard experts from CCB, the National Apprenticeship Service and BD speak about how apprenticeships are benefitting local businesses.

CCB recently showcased some of their environment courses at the ‘Get your head around energy efficiency’ event that was held on the 26th April 2012 at the Business Space in Truro. The purpose of the event was to help local businesses see how they can be more energy efficient

Cornwall College Business were the hosts for the Cornwall Council's Contractor Awareness Day at The Keay, St Austell. Over 100 local contractors attended the event to hear from the Council's Health & Safety team along with guest speakers Councillor Carolyn Rule and Debbie Wilshire, Cornwall College.

The official opening of the new Cornwall College Business training venue, The Business Space in Plymouth was judged a great success by delegates and speakers. Staff from one of Cornwall’s largest businesses swapped their normal work clothes for running shoes and artists’ brushes as part of 2011’s Adult Learners’ Week. Over 200 people from Ginsters tried their hand at kick-boxing, Chinese painting and yoga as part of the annual Learning at Work event, organised with Cornwall College Business.

Cornwall College Business staff trekked from St Austell, Falmouth and Newquay, walking to Truro raising money for Helston-based charity Shelterbox.

Simon Baldwin, Development Director at Scarlet Hotel, along with architect Jon Capel, from Harrison Sutton Partnership spoke about their painstaking efforts to create a unique and sustainable building that blends with and enhances the local environment.

As part of National Apprenticeship week, Principal and CEO of Cornwall College Dave Linnell spent the morning at Fifteen Restaurant near Newquay. He joined the catering apprentices in the kitchen to make pasta, grill sausages and prepare food.

Over 110 people attended an inspiring conference hosted by Cornwall College Business with Dick Strawbridge, television presenter, eco-engineer, ex-army colonel and proud owner of the best moustache in showbiz.

Hairdressing and Barbering apprentices from Cornwall College were lucky enough to attend this year's 3-day Salon International show in London. They saw fashion shows, hair demos, presentations, seminars on hairstyling and business, and much much more. Exhibitors included ghd, TIGI, TONI & GUY and The Sassoon Academy. None of them had been to the event before and found it inspiring and exciting. They came home bursting with new ideas!
