The Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship is for people who want to become a qualified vehicle technician or auto electrician in light vehicles, motorcycles or heavy vehicles.
Over 80% of our motor vehicle apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.
An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!
Upon successful completion, you are semi skilled and qualified to work as a trainee technician in vehicle maintenance and repair. Thereafter you can start working towards the nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma by enrolling in the advanced apprenticeship.
In the future, you could work as a vehicle technician, auto electrician, MOT Tester, start your own business or teach vehicle maintenance and repair. You may be interested in continuing your apprenticeship studies through Cornwall College Business and enrol in the team leading, people management, vehicle body and paint operations or vehicle parts and operations apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair.
You must enjoy working in the motor vehicle industry, and have good practical skills. This apprenticeship supports those working as a trainee vehicle technician or auto electrician in light vehicles, motorcycles or heavy vehicles.
To enrol in this apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C level and be employed in a suitable trainee position.

You will attend lectures at the Camborne or St Austell campus 1 day per week for 2 years, while the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace.
During this apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to select a pathway to suit your job e.g. light vehicles, motorcycles or heavy vehicles. You will carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs to vehicles, while replacing engine units, auxiliary electrical units and vehicle chassis/frame units and components.
You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.
