An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!

Upon successful completion, you will be a qualified Spa Therapist and can work in a variety of locations including salons, spas, resorts, health clubs, hotels, cruise ships or start your own business.

You may be interested in studying further and enrol in a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or specialise in a variety of treatments e.g. holistic therapies, nutrition, laser, skin care or dermatology. There is plenty of room for growth in the beauty industry and this apprenticeship is a good stepping stone in your career!

Who is this course for?

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job to become a qualified spa therapist. You must enjoy working in the beauty industry and enjoy working on a one to one basis with clients.

This course supports those working in a trainee beauty or spa therapist position.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this advanced apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C and be employed within the beauty or holistics industry.  You must have completed a Level 2 Diploma in Beauty or Nail Services or have relevant experience.

Course overview

You will attend lectures at the St Austell or Saltash campus 1 day a week for 1-2 years, depending on prior experience and qualifications.

During this apprenticeship you will build onto your Level 2 Diploma in Beauty or Nail Services and learn advanced techniques in spa therapy. You will:

• Learn body massage, stone therapy treatments, head massages and pre-blended aromatherapy oil massage
• Learn to operate sauna, steam and hydrotherapy treatments and monitor clients undergoing these treatments
• Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities and material for the spa

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualification:

• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Spa Therapy

With a Diploma in Spa Therapy, you could work in a variety of locations including salons, spas, resorts, health clubs, hotels, cruise ships or start your own business.

Working hours in the beauty industry are becoming more flexible with salons open longer hours during the week and over weekends.
