The advanced apprenticeship in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools is the ideal course for people who work in the education sector and want to become a qualified member of the learning support staff.

Additional Information - You will attend lectures 1 day per month for 18 months, this apprenticeship is a combination of home study and lectures.

Who is this course for?

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.

You must enjoy working with children and young adults, be confident in the classroom environment and have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over and have a minimum of level 1 literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You must be employed within a suitable position in the teaching sector for a minimum of 16 hours a week.

Course overview

During this apprenticeship, you will study on a part time basis and attend lectures at the Camborne campus 1 day per month for 18 months. In the classroom you will provide support under the direction of a teacher where you will put into practice all the material learned in your lectures. The main areas include promoting positive behaviour, supporting learning assessment and activities, understanding development and safeguarding of children and young people.

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualification:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
