Roofing Apprenticeship Level 3

Summary

The Roofing Occupations Apprenticeship is for people who want to become a qualified Roofer, while laying the foundation for a successful career in the construction industry.

If you are interested in roofing, have a good head for heights and are able to follow technical drawings and building plans; this is a good course to help you progress in your career. This is a follow on course from the Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship.

Over 90% of our construction apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money while staying in your current job. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!

Once you are a qualified roofer, you may progress to the level of a supervisor or foreman.

In the future, you may be interested in studying further and complete a Construction Contracting Operations or Site Supervisory Diploma.

Who is this course for?

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in roofing.

You must enjoy working in the construction industry, have a good head for heights and be able to follow technical drawings and building plans.

This is a follow on course from the Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C and be employed in a suitable roofing position.  

You must have completed the Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship or have the relevant experience.

Course overview

You will attend lectures at the St Austell campus 1 day per week for 1 year, while the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace.

During this apprenticeship, you will build onto your Level 2 Roofing Diploma and learn to install, strip and reuse a variety of roof coverings including:

  • Single-lap roof coverings to a variable and fixed gauge
  • Plain tile roof coverings
  • Regular sized natural roof slates to advance roof detail
  • Roofing backgrounds and components
  • Pre-formed weathering flashings to roofs
  • Random roof slates to diminishing margins
  • Double-lap artificial roof slates

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Roofing Occupations
  • NVQ in Roofing Occupations

What's next?

With a Level 3 Diploma, you are a fully qualified roofer and may progress to a foreman or supervisory level in the future.

You may be interested in studying further and complete a Construction Contracting Operations or Site Supervisory Diploma.

There are no apprenticeship course fees charged for anyone between the ages of 16 and 18.  For those aged 19 and over, fees do apply.
