Having a qualification in Hospitality and Catering gives you a head start in the hospitality industry. You can choose from a number of different pathways including professional cookery, food and beverage, front of house, hospitality services and housekeeping.

An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a qualification and earn real money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay! Over 90% of our hospitality and catering apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.

Who is this course for?

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Hospitality and Catering. You can select from a variety of pathways which include Professional Cookery, Food and Beverage, Front of House, Hospitality Services or Housekeeping.

You must enjoy working within the hospitality industry and enjoy working with people. Depending on your job role, you may work in a client facing role which would require you to be well turned out, while other areas may require a suitable level of fitness to perform some aspects of the job.

Entry requirements

To enrol in the Hospitality and Catering Apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C (ideally in Maths and English) and be employed in a suitable position within the hospitality industry. Course overview

  • Professional Cookery – You will prepare, cook and finish a variety of high quality food including fish, meat, poultry and vegetable dishes for restaurants, hotels, pubs etc. This course is relevant to the fine dining establishments, where you may work as a craft chef, kitchen assistant or team member.
  • Food and Beverage Service – You will serve food and beverages in variety of establishments including silver service, takeaways, pubs, cellars, bars and restaurants. This course is relevant to those who work as a waiter or behind a bar.
  • Front of House Reception – You will work on the reception and deal with arrivals, departures, bookings and payments. This apprenticeship is relevant to reception staff at hotels and restaurants.
  • Housekeeping – You will carry out general housekeeping duties which include linen service and cleaning. This apprenticeship is relevant to those working as a housekeeper in accommodation services.
  • Hospitality Services – You will cover a variety of tasks included in the front of house, housekeeping, food and beverage service and professional cookery apprenticeships. This course is relevant to small-site accommodation services where you work as a team member.
  • Licensed Hospitality – You will prepare and serve cocktails, maintain the bar area and learn barista skills. This course is relevant to those who work behind a bar or in a customer facing role in the bar area.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will receive support from experienced Cornwall College tutors. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality and Catering
  • Level 2 Certificate/Award in Hospitality and Catering
