If you enjoy working as a Hairdresser and want to progress in your career, you could build on your Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing and enrol in this advanced apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a new qualification while staying in your current job and earning money. At the end of the course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification and no debts to pay!

Over 90% of our Hairdressing apprentices are offered permanent positions by their employers once they have completed their apprenticeship.

With a Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, you could progress to senior stylist, salon trainer, manager or own your own salon. Alternatively, you could work on films sets or cruise ships. 

In the future, you may be interested in studying further and enrol on a cutting course in London, a Level 4 Salon Management Apprenticeship or branch out and enrol in the Barbering Apprenticeship at Cornwall College Business.

Who is this course for?

This advanced apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job to become a qualified senior stylist. You must enjoy working within a salon environment and enjoy working on a one to one basis with clients.

This is a follow on course from the Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this advanced apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, have a minimum of 2 GCSEs and be employed within a salon environment. You must have a suitable level of fitness to perform some aspects of the job, as you will be on your feet most of the day.

You need to have completed the Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship or have the relevant experience.

Course overview

You will attend lectures at the Camborne, St Austell and Saltash campus 1 day per week for 18 months, while the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace.

During this apprenticeship you will build onto your Level 2 Diploma and learn advanced colour, cutting and styling techniques. You will learn about colour correction and promote suitable products to clients.

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualification:

• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
