Case Study

Handcrafted Furniture Making

Apprentice furniture maker Matt Coutts is celebrating after his unique hand crafted chair was chosen to be featured at a top London gallery. His work was shown as part of a prestigious furniture showcase alongside nationally recognised, big name furniture designers and makers at the 21st Century Furniture exhibition and was one of only 70 exhibits chosen from around the country.

Matt did his apprenticeship with Scott Woyka Furniture in Falmouth. He completed his NVQ3 in Hand Crafted Furniture with a distinction.

Scott, Owner of Scott Woyka Furniture said: “Matt has very quickly climbed to the top end of the furniture game, making some beautiful work with great skill and natural talent.”

Matt was delighted to have his chair selected. He said: “I was really pleased that my hard work paid off and that I had the chance to showcase not only my furniture making skills but also my design ability. It will be an honour to have my work sitting alongside some of the top furniture makers in the country - and hopefully someone will also want to buy it!”
