Pendennis Shipyard

Case Study

“In the 12 years that our apprenticeship scheme has been running it has produced some incredibly talented young people, who have gone on to be valuable assets to both our business and the wider industry. One of the main benefits that we are only now starting to see is that the scheme is producing managers for the future of our business,” said Jill Carr, Training Manager at Pendennis Shipyard.

Pendennis build and refit luxury world class super yachts. They were first established in 1988, based at Falmouth Docks where they have grown to employ approximately 300 people.

Working in partnership with Cornwall College Business, Pendennis Shipyard has shown outstanding support in the development of their apprentices. Over the last decade Pendennis has employed over 100 apprentices. These trainees are undertaking apprenticeships in electrical, engineering, carpentry, fabrication and welding or more specialised, yacht surface finishing.

The commitment and support Pendennis has given to their apprentices has gained them numerous awards and accolades over the years.
