Case Study

Plumbing

Miranda successful achieved 5 GCSE’s at school and continued on to do A Levels but found this wasn’t the right route for her. She then changed direction and become qualified as an Ilex Paralegal.

Miranda felt that she wasn’t getting any job satisfaction from an office job and started to work in her family’s Plumbing business. Here she undertook an apprenticeship with Cornwall College Business where she said: “The apprenticeship gave me the knowledge to start off my career and grow my confidence”.

Miranda is now a self employed plumbing and heating engineer. She undertakes various job including basic boiler breakdowns, to designing complicated heating systems to installing bathrooms on sites and in the domestic environment.

Miranda said: “Every day is different, with each day presenting a new challenge.  Giving me real job satisfaction... I like being able, at the end of the day, to see what I have accomplished”.

Miranda is always having to keep to date and takes new courses as the plumbing industry is always evolving.  And even now she is still taking courses at Cornwall College Camborne, as she knows and trusts their teaching and experience.
